Small is Beautiful 2017
8 Jun 17 to 11 Jun 17
Centre for Alternative Technology, Machynlleth, Powys, SY20 9AZ
Small is Beautiful
£45 (10-17 years) - £85 plus booking fee
Small is Beautiful returns for 2017, this time, in a slight break from tradition, taking place from the 8th to the 11th June. We are partnering again with the beautiful Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) in mid-Wales, taking over the site for four days of learning, sharing, debating, making, dancing and celebrating. We can't wait to welcome you back to CAT in June! We have just launched our new website, giving full details of this year's event... go on, give it a look! Early bird tickets are on sale now and selling like Welsh (hot)cakes. This year, the festival is longer in format, giving you more time to settle into the beautiful surroundings and an opportunity to really dig in to the theme of the event:
The theme of the festival is 'housing justice'. This is a phrase we have come up with for the festival, and it doesn't yet have a definition. Our ambitious aim will be to give life to the phrase and turn it into something that meaningfully describes the kind of housing system we want to see and create. Our invitation to you is to take part and join that discussion. The idea of housing justice evolves out of the related concept of 'technology justice', which is a guiding principle for one of the festival's partner organisations, Practical Action. Technology justice means ensuring the benefits of technology are shared more equally and sustainably; it is also about control and making sure technology is empowering. During the festival, we want to find the equivalent for the housing sector, from hands-on, practical workshops through to debates on current housing policy. However you choose to approach this challenge, there is something at Small is Beautiful for you!
Once again we are partnering with CAT to offer discounted tickets to the Zero Carbon Britain course and a couple of others that are running in the days prior to the festival. If you're interested in building a tiny house, environmental film-making, or learning the ins and outs of CAT's brand new ZCB report visit the courses page to find out about this offer.
